The Satoi Forest Range under the Zunheboto Forest Division is one of the remaining Virgin Forests of Nagaland. Stretching across the Satoi Range, it preserves one of the last virgin forests in the district, offering a sanctuary for rare and endangered species. The area is particularly renowned for the Blyth’s Tragopan, Nagaland’s state bird, and its spectacular rhododendron blooms that transform the forest into a vibrant landscape each spring. Beyond its ecological richness, Satoi has become a focal point for conservation-based eco-tourism and community-led conservation, with trekking routes, camping sites, and awareness programs that invite visitors to experience its pristine environment while learning about sustainable forest stewardship. The Forest Department, together with local communities, has been working to balance conservation with cultural celebration, making Satoi not only a biodiversity hotspot but also a living example of participatory governance and ecological resilience.
